An ECG test is not needed in low-risk individuals. In other words, if you are not experiencing any of the above symptoms, or if you do not have a family history of heart problems, you may not need an ECG. Your doctor will advise you further on this.
The test takes a few minutes to complete and requires you to be warm and comfortable enough to lie still.
Your doctor will place a number of electrodes on your body, mainly the chest and your limbs. The electrodes are small, sticky patches which contain wires that connect to a special monitor. During the ECG, the system will record the electrical signals produced when the heart beats. The computer then displays the recorded information as waves on a paper or on a monitor for your doctor to analyze.
Any anomalies detected during the ECG will be assessed by your doctor who will then discuss formulate a report before providing you with feedback.
